In Memory Of

Anthony C. “Tony” Del Vecchio, age 47, of Toston

September 14, 1966 – March 28, 2014

Anthony “Tony” Christopher DelVecchio (DEVO), age 47, passed away March 28, 2014 of unknown causes at home with his wife Traci Kirksey DelVecchio.

Anthony was born in Santa Clara, CA in 1966 and moved to Carson City, NV as a teenager.  Anthony’s life was dedicated to serving our country.  He joined the US Navy at the age of 20 and in 1991 he began his career as a US Navy SEAL. He was assigned to SEAL Team 5 until 1996.  In 1996, he became a Naval Special Warfare Instructor.  In 1999 he was assigned to SEAL Team 4 where he served until 2001 when he started as Basic Underwater Demolition SEAL Instructor (BUD/S) until 2003. In 2003 he joined the Navy Parachute Team “The Leap Frogs” until his retirement in 2006.  Since 2006 he has served overseas as a mobile security officer with SOC, LLC.

He is survived by his wife, Traci DelVecchio, and her parents Steve & Janet Kirksey of Townsend, MT, his daughters Breanna and Dani DelVecchio of San Diego, CA his mother Diane DelVecchio of Gilroy, CA, his sister and brother-in-law Veronica & Stephen Palazzolo of Carson City, NV and their children, Nick, Giana, Dustin, & Gabrielle and 9 DelVecchio aunts and uncles.

Tony was a wonderful husband, son, brother, uncle, father of 2 beautiful girls, and a great friend.  Being a US Navy SEAL was his most proud accomplishment. He had an amazing sense of humor, loved to drive around the mountains and be in nature, loved his Harley Davidson, Arturo Fuente cigars, and a good Scotch! He and Traci loved traveling together and doing just about anything together.  He was the love of her life.  As much difficulty as his life-long military service brought him relationally; it is what he was made to do. He would have laid down his life for his brothers without a second’s thought.  He was a rare person; a real-life hero!

Many of his military career friends have asked how they can be of support and suggested that his wife Traci create a memorial page as a way that they can help. It is http://youcaring.com/DEVO.  Traci extends her personal thank you for the many kind words and incredibly thoughtful donations and wants you to know that your words are blessings and mean the world to her.  She knows that Tony will always be watching over us all and that her heart will always belong to him.

A guy like Tony never leaves us, his character made us laugh and motivated us to always want to be there for one another. He will be sorely missed, but he’ll always be there since he leaves a long-lasting impression in our minds, hearts and inner being. Rest in peace brother!

A true hero has been lost, but we are all lucky enough to carry his laughter and character inside our hearts. Shall we all cherish this life and live it with as much conviction and spiritedness as our beloved Tony. Through my tears I see your smile and raise a glass to you dear cousin. I will hold my son closer tonight and hope to teach him to be half the man you were….

I got to know him as Contractor. Anyone who deploys for months at a time knows it sometimes wears one a ya being away. He was one of the guys that made it easier to be down range. A smile and a good laugh seem to be the order of the day with him. I’m glad our trails crossed. My best to his family at this time.

I had the distinct pleasure of working with Tony
Overseas when he was working for SOC. It was
Immediately clear that he was a genuine guy and
A person of solid character. He was also a blast to hang out with. I am better man for knowing Tony regardless how brief. He made a lasting impact on my life. God bless. RIP Devo.

I worked with Tony several times overseas. Three times in a place so incredibly small that you got to know people whether you wanted to or not. I was not sure what to make of Tony at first. He had a quietness and strength about him and was slow to open up but once he did he had a generous smile and was surprisingly funny. he enjoyed talking about his bike, his family and Montana. He never spoke once of being a seal but wore his tattoo with pride. It was an honor to know and work with him. Fair winds and following seas my friend.

My first memory of Anthony was when he was a toddler. My sister Di had returned home to Cincinnati for a visit. After an exasperating time of chasing him around the house, we were admiring how sweet he looked once he had fallen asleep. I rarely saw Anthony growing up, but he and Traci came to Denver with the Leap Frogs. I was fortunate to spend some time with him and get to know him a little better. I am sorry he had to leave so soon.

We know that God obviously had a plan for Tony that maybe none of us will come to understand, but all of us know in our hearts is in the best hands possible. With heavy hearts and tons of prayers, we are blessed to have the memories we do of Tony’s beautiful smile, fun loving spirit and dedication to our Country. To this day, the way Tony would give a hug is the most memorable ever felt…strong, warm, and meaningful. May God always have the same hug over all Tony’s family and friends to always remind us of him.

I’m sorry to hear about Tony. He was a very special guy. I’ve known Tony since we went to high school together in Carson City. We rode the school bus together and I always have thought of him as a friend. My prayers go out to his family.

I knew Tony several years ago when his daughters and mine were in the same daycare. He had a way of lighting up the room with his smile. He was always ready with a joke to make you laugh or a hug if you were having a hard day. Being a lifelong Charger fan it was always an extra thrill to see him parachute onto the field with his fellow Leap Frogs. To all of us Tony was a hero who loved his country and took pride in what he did. I feel blessed to have also have known him as a loving father to his 2 daughters. He will be missed…
