Carl Warren Hunt was born on June 16, 1950, in Ekalaka, Mt to James and Doreen Hunt, fourth of nine children. Carl passed away July 11, 2025, after a 16-month battle with stage 4 lung cancer. He was living with his daughter Marcy and her family in San Antonio, TX as he underwent cancer treatment.
Attending school in Livingston, MT and Renton, WA, he received his diploma in 1969. In 1970 Carl joined the family in White Sulphur Springs, MT to work for “Rosie” Holmston. His one and only Labor Day Brone ride resulted in a broken back and an end to his cowboy/rodeo career. In 1972, Carl, Paul Becker, and Russel Hoyt ventured to Alaska in search of work. Paul and Russell returned home to Montana, while Carl stayed and joined the army on August 12, 1974, right there in Anchorage, AK. His duty tours included Fort Bliss, TX, Germany, Fort Hood, TX, Elmendorf, AK, South Korea, and Desert Storm. He retired from the Army in Fort Bliss, TX on February 29, 1992. His retirement careers included working at Good Times Stores, roofing, and construction.
Carl raised his kids in Texas, but returned to White Sulphur Springs, MT to enjoy Big Sky Country for his retirement, as he had always dreamed of doing. He spent his first few winters working at Showdown Ski Lodge, where he created lots of fun memories. He wasn’t a skier himself but he loved the atmosphere and the people. He was passionate about the outdoors, fishing, camping, hiking, and going for long drives through the back roads in Montana. While enjoying the outdoors he would also dabble in photography. Carl met Lois Friedman in 2009, and they married in 2012. They shared many special moments until her death on July 13, 2022, due to stage 4 colon cancer. Carl loved his family and spoke often of them. During his time in White Sulphur Springs, Carl was an active volunteer for The American Legion, Food Bank, The Nutrition Coalition, and The Senior Center. He was a generous man who was always ready to lend a helping hand, especially to those in need.
Carl attended and was active in church at Bethel Temple Assembly of God in El Paso, TX. He made many fond memories and built strong relationships with his brothers and sisters in Christ. He was a brother and father to many at Bethel.
The family would like to thank Crest Hospice of San Antonio, TX for the diligent and heartfelt care during the last months of his life. And a special thanks to; Marcos, Marynelda, and Cynthia.
Preceding Carl in his death are his parents, his eldest brother, Jim Hunt, his grandson Robert Aguilar IV, and his wife, Lois Hunt. Survivors include his sisters; Pat Wright, Sandy (Homer Henning), Kathy (Mike Held), brothers; John (Debbie) Hunt, Tom (Kathleen) Hunt, Bob (Beth) Hunt, and Dave Hunt.
