In Memory Of

Chad Allan Graveley, age 52 of Townsend

May 24, 1971 – July 1, 2023

Chad Allan Graveley born on May 24, 1971 at St. Patrick’s Hospital in Missoula, Montana passed away on July 1, 2023 in Townsend.

Chad lived his first three years in Missoula with his parents and big brother, Ken, while his dad attended law school; the family then moved to Helena, Montana.  He attended CR Anderson grade school until 1983 when he and his mother moved to Palmer, Alaska. He attended Palmer Junior High and graduated from Palmer High School in 1989.  While in High School, he sang in the choir and played football for the Palmer Moose as a wide receiver, #82. After high school, he attended MSU in Bozeman for a year.  He returned home and worked for a short time that summer at a cannery in Valdez, Alaska.

In the fall of 1990, he drove from Montana to Miami, Florida to attended Broadcasting School, graduating in the fall of 1991.  Then he returned to Montana to work on the Tri G ranch.  He spent a year in Australia as an agricultural exchange student working in the outback on a cattle station. His mom and step-dad visited him at the end of his year stay.  They traveled the north coast where Chad Allan learned to scuba dive and dove the Great Barrier Reef.  He returned to Townsend and resumed his work on the Tri G Ranch until 2019.  He then started working for Graymont Western US Inc. in Townsend. His travels included Europe, Ukraine, and Jamaica.

Chad Allan will be greatly missed, not only by his family but by his many friends. He will be remembered for his honesty, generous heart, sense of humor and his love for his dogs. He loved to go camping with his faithful companion, Izzy and talk to God. He had a gift for carpentry and wood working. He also was known to serenade many of his friends on his guitar.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents; Gordon and Zita Graveley and Cliff and Esther Quigley.

He is survived by his parents Charles Graveley and Sheila Quigley, stepfather, Jim Buckley; brother, Ken Graveley and sister, Morgan Graveley Dolan; nephews, Zach Graveley and wife Jill and new-born great niece, Riley; and C.J. Graveley and wife Corri.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 22, 2023 at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Townsend, Montana.  All are welcome to join the family burial services at Holy Cross Cemetery and/or proceed directly to Watson Event Center, 290 Litening Barn Road for the Celebration of Life! Dear Uncle Charlie, Aunt Sheila, Ken, Morgan and extended family,
So very sorry for the loss of your beloved son Chad. Though I did not know Chad well, I will remember him for his shy, beautiful smile.
Several years ago, I ran into Chad in Townsend. In typical “Graveley” fashion we exchanged smart comments to each other, then visited about our lives. The exchange was short, but memorable for me because Chad gave me a big hug and told me to take care. I returned that hug, and was very touched by it because we rarely saw one another. I will always remember his warm spirit.
    With sincere sympathies and love,
    Zita Caltrider
