Darla Dee Smith, 73 of Townsend, Montana, formerly of White Sulphur Springs, Montana is now in Jesus’ arms. She passed away on Thursday, July 3, 2014 at Broadwater Health Center, Townsend, MT. just 3 days before her 74th birthday. She was born July 6, 1940 in Mitchell, South Dakota, to Edward F. and Grace Ann Witt.
Darla was a homemaker in her earlier years and later became a volunteer Senior Companion to many in White Sulphur Springs in her later years. She was a blessing to those who had the opportunity to be in her care or who became close friends. The loves of her life were her dogs. She was lovingly known to her grandkids as the “Dog Grandma.” For most of her adult life she had at least one, if not two or three “dog children” at a time.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Marla Witt and baby daughter, Gracie Ann.
Survivors include her daughters, Marla (Lance) Yuhas of Townsend, MT, Angela (Diane) Smith of Nampa, ID; grandchildren, Kamae (Kiff) Meier, Brandon (Jamie) Thompson, Britton Thompson, Kansys Thompson, all of Townsend, MT, Kyndra Thompson of Spokane, WA and Alexandrea Smith of Boise, ID; many great grandchildren; and her two shitzus, Susie and Gidget.
Memorial services will be conducted at 10 AM Wednesday, July 9, 2014 at Townsend Christian Fellowship with Pastor Gary Bishop officiating. Reception following.
Memorial contributions may be made in Darla’s name to any Human Society or Animal Charity of donor’s choice.
Jesus is carrying you now; no more pain, worry or tears. We love you and miss you, but we will see you again one day.

Dear Darla’s family,
I was honored to know and work with Darla on the Senior Companion volunteer program when she lived in WSS. She was a great asset to our program and loved her client friends and was devoted to them. Even in winter, she would talk with them several times a week, if she couldn’t get out to see them. I am so sorry for your loss. My deepest sympathy and prayers go out to you all.
Peace, Cindy
