Fern Marie (Helmick) Demaray, 92, of White Sulphur Springs

Fern Demary, 92, of White Sulphur Springs, passed away peacefully on November 11, 2024. She was born on July 25, 1932, to William and Louise Baker in Topeka, Kansas, where she was raised alongside her four brothers and one sister. Fern spent many years traveling the country before she settled down in Broadview, MT, to raise her seven sons in 1974.

In 1985, she and her family moved to White Sulphur Springs, MT, which she called home for the remainder of her life. Fern worked at the Lane Bar, where she forged many lifelong friendships and enjoyed playing darts. She loved spending quality time doing puzzles with her son and her grandchildren, always cherishing those moments.

Fern had a wonderful spirit of adventure, especially enjoying rides on a four-wheeler with her late husband, Grandpa. Even after his passing, she did her best to remain upbeat and look forward to the joys that life still had to offer. She often bragged about her lush green grass and her beautiful flower garden, which brought her great joy.

Grandma left us on 11/11, a day that symbolizes making a wish. Fern knew what she was doing; she didn’t want us to mourn her but to celebrate her life. Her love extended beyond her own children to include her grandchildren, her great-grandchildren, and even many adopted ‘grandchildren’ and ‘children’ who affectionately called her “Mom.” She was truly a blessed soul, and anyone who met her couldn’t help but love her contagious enthusiasm for life.

One of Fern’s greatest wishes was to have all of her seven boys together, a dream that often didn’t came true. occasionally gathered six of them at one time during special occasions. The annual family Fourth of July celebrations were especially meaningful to her when family came together to cook and enjoy the festivities. She delighted in watching the fireworks that lit up the sky—the whole town felt those booms, marking a joyous time in our lives, filled with lasting memories.

As families may fade, her love will never be far away; we will always come together to celebrate the cherished memories we share.

Join us in celebrating Fern’s life at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 403 Houston Street West, White Sulphur Springs, MT on December 4, 2024, from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM. There will be a viewing for those who wish to say their farewells, followed by the closing of the casket and the beginning of the service at 11:00 AM. The service will include the reading of the obituary, and a message from Barbara Baker and president Oliver and a slide after which there will be a procession to the graveside burial. Fern’s graveside will be blessed as her final resting place.

Afterward, we will return to the Latter-day Saints Church for a luncheon featuring pulled pork and Sloppy Joes. Please bring a side dish or one of your favorite recipes, or even something you’ve cooked with her. Let’s all share our stories and memories of Fern Demary as we celebrate her remarkable life.
