Gary Charles Hubenthal (“Hoop”), age 70, died of natural causes on July 10, 2017, in White Sulphur Springs, MT.
Gary was born on November 27, 1946 in Townsend, MT, to parents Charles L Hubenthal and Anne (Mahlmnn) Hubenthal. He graduated from White Sulphur Springs High School in 1965.
Hoop worked hard all his life; often holding more than one job. He served in the Navy as a young man. He and Dianna worked at the saw mill in WSS until its closing. He was a logger, partnered in a small meat cutting business, mined, spent time in the oil fields in Wyoming, drove the mail between WSS and Helena, accounting, managed a housekeeping team, cleaned for MSU.
In Gary’s younger years he was active with VFW. He loved placing his efforts into the community of WSS. He was a well-known for catering and throwing an amazing event and spoke proudly of his days helping with the fireworks shows.
Hoop and family moved to Washington for a year and then settled to raise the girls in Bozeman MT in 1986. Many hours were spent at the lake fishing or a nice drive through the mountains of Montana.
Gary is remembered and loved by his daughter, Angela Janette DeKay (grandson Austin Weber), of Belgrade, MT; his daughter, Brandy Rochelle Hubenthal (Whitney Kircher), of Olympia, WA and his step-daughter Pamela Hendrichs (grandsons Logan, Billy and Chris Hendrichs), of Billings, MT; step-son Les Bonrud (granddaughters Emily and Jamie), Blackhawk, SD, and granddaughter Savannah Paull, brother Art Wirth, Butte, MT; countless of other relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Anne Hubenthal; wife Dianna K Hubenthal, sister Francis Skerritt, sister Ruth Teller, brother Larry Hubenthal, step-daughter Deborah Roberts Qwin, niece Connie grandson Cody Breeton.

I am so sorry to hear of Gary’s passing. Have comfort in knowing that he was a good person and great dad! I know he loved his girls deeply. Now he can rest in peace with Dianne at his side.

So sorry to hear of the passing of Gary. He was a great guy. We hung out a bit when we were kids. Even though I lived in Helena, we spent a lot of time in WSS with the Bill Jones family and of course, Gary was always around. I have lots of fun memories of the bunch of us going to the movies and just hanging out. I even went to his Jr. Prom with him. I saw him a couple of times when he lived in Bozeman and we were visiting the Norman Jones. RIP, Hoop, you were one of the good guys. Thanks for memories.
