Gerie (Gerldine) Zehntner died January 2nd in Mountain View Memorial Nursing Home. Gerie was born in Huron, South Dakota to Claudine and LeVell Ostrander March 25, 1932.
She received most of her education in LaCrosse, Wisconsin, graduating from Viterbo University in June 1957.She taught in Portage Wisconsin before coming to White Sulphur Springs where she taught Home Economics and English as well as substituting for many years. In 1982 she began working with the Senior Center where she stayed until January 2001.
She and Glen Zehntner were married September 8, 1962.
Her husband Glen, parents and two babies preceded her in death as well as a brother, Joe Ostrander and her brothers- in- law, John Kerrigan, Harold, Marvin, and Melvin Zehntner, Jack Musgrove and Jack Short. Sister in law Ethel Musgrove and Rose Ostrander
She is survived by two sons, J and Bev of Great Falls; Al and Marilyn of Lake Worth, Texas, one daughter Kay and Mark Barnes; five grandsons, Bryan, Ben, Marcus, Jake and Charlie. She is also survived by one sister, Pat Kerrigan; Sister-in -laws, Julia Short, Jo Zehntner, Betty Zehntner, and Brother -in-laws, Duckie and Jean Zehntner and Howard, and Carol Zehntner. Many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be sent to St Bartholomews, Parish, the Scottish Rite Cancer Van Transportation, 541 -14th St West, Billings, Mt 59102 or the Senior Center or one of your choice.
A viewing will be held from 2:00 p.m. ~ 8:00 p.m. Friday, January 11, 2019 at Stevenson Wilke Funeral Home, 103 E Garfield St, in White Sulphur Springs. A funeral mass will be celebrated 11:00 a.m. Saturday January 12, 2019 at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church, 407 2nd Ave. in White Sulphur Springs. A burial will follow the Mass at Mayn Cemetery. Gerie has been our friend since she was our Home Room and Home Ec teacher at Portage those many years ago. We once visited the family in WSS on our way across country. Every Dec we looked forward to their friendly Christmas greeting – she never failed. She had a long life, well-lived. She was loved by many we’re sure.

I remember the young Teacher with a ready smile and a good sense of humor. And if we were really really lucky we got to test taste the cookies the Home Ec girls made in the class previous to Home Room. My condolences to Gerry’s family.
