Gordon Peter Brug was born October 10, 1943, to Nina Bodle Brug and Peter Brug in Chouteau, Montana. He passed away at his home on February 21, 2019, after a long, hard fought battle with cancer.
Gordon grew up in a farming family and was a true farmer at heart his whole life. When he was quite young, he attended a heavy equipment school in Idaho. From there, he enlisted in the army as a crane operator and spent most of his tour of duty overseas in France.
On July 20, 1973, he married Florence Boner. Three sons were born to this marriage: Warren (Rachael), Keith (Kerry), and Kenneth.
Gordon spent most of his life farming. He also was the ditch rider for the Broadwater-Missouri canal for many years and especially enjoyed operating their excavator. Gordon loved outdoors and enjoyed campouts with the family, hunting, and fishing. His passion was bowling, and he participated in that sport until it was physically impossible for him to do so.
Gordon is survived by his wife, his three sons, and a daughter, Nina Brug, from a previous marriage, granddaughter Adilynn, grandson Peter, three step-grandsons, Chase, Zachary, and Levi, and one step-granddaughter Sabrina. He is also survived by his two brothers, Allan (Irene) and Douglas (Glenna) and his sister, Karen Croom, plus many nieces and nephews and their families.
Gordon was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Nina Brug.
Gordon will be remembered by his family and friends as a fairly mild mannered and extremely hard working man who, although he rarely expressed it in words, really loved his family and deeply valued his friends. He had a unique ability that enabled him to get along and work with most anybody.
At Gordon’s request, no services will be held. Please visit below to offer the family a condolence or share a memory of Gordon.
Linda L. Brug Dedrick says
As Uncle Gordon’s oldest niece, I had the pleasure of going fishing with he and my Aunt Florence when they were dating. But my most memorable experience was that of a wild ride he took me on once to go deer hunting with him as a teenager. He took us out behind my grandpas in Toston the hills. I found the ride to be a bit scary as we drove across the mountainside, literally sideways and fast! I asked him, “Won’t we tip over?’ he just gave me a quick sideways glance and a grin, and said, “Not as long as we’re going fast enough!” I just held on and enjoyed the wildest ride of my life! Never saw any deer, but it sure was fun! It brings me a smile now even as I think about it. Yes, my Uncle Gordon was a unique man.
Keith Noem says
I had the pleasure of bowling in the same leagues as Gordon, and his presence will be greatly missed.
Leigh Ann Hern says
Gordon was a great neighbor and friend. Especially to my late husband Leonard Hern. It was often either man would ask for help, but whenever Leonard asked Gordon was always there. Gordon was always working on the farm. He was a gentle soul, with an enormous work ethic. He will be missed.
Joyce F. Evans says
I didn’t know Gordon Brug, but I do know Linda Brug. I was your Cascade High School friend. We rode horses together at a Brug ranch west of Toston (Raidersburg). You rode Sheik and I rode the buckskin mare.
I currently live in the Helena North Valley. It would be nice if Linda would contact me and we could catch up on life.
I would also like to see your mother, Irene Brug.
