Harry Evan Cartwright was born January 15, 1942 to Lewis (Pete) Cartwright and Bernice (Daniels) Cartwright. Harry graduated from Broadwater County High School in 1960. He attended MSU for a year in the agriculture department before returning home to work the family ranch. In 1962, Harry married Janie Galloway and they moved to the ranch on Cottonwood where they started their family. Cindy Cartwright came along in 1964 and Mike Cartwright in 1968.
Harry helped build the Townsend Rodeo grounds and worked to put on the Townsend Rodeo, as well as many other rodeos across the state for over 17 years.
In 1977, the family ranch was sold and he spent some time working as a mill wright at RY Timber. It didn’t take him long to get back to agriculture. He went to work for Valley Sales selling farm equipment.
In 1983, Harry married Renee Trahan and started a new chapter in his life. Following his heart to stay in in the ag industry, he became a district brand inspector and remained a brand inspector for over 30 years. In 1985, he started a feed supplement business that became very successful. Harry received multiple top sales awards in the past 32 years. As the feed business was a winter job, in 1986 he took a summer riding job with the Crow Creek Cattle Association. This job led to his greatest love and the chance to spend countless hours with his three grandsons Shawn, Jake and Kane, teaching them all the finer points of being a cowboy. He taught them horsemanship and cow sense, how to work hard and problem solve. This time was also a lesson of integrity and honesty. In 1996, Harry married Edie Jackson and they spent their free time riding his motorcycle around the country.
In 2011, Harry found a special friend Elaine Huckins and they formed a special bond. They spent their time driving through the hills, fishing, camping with the family, and traveling to rodeos and going wherever his great granddaughter Taylor was competing running barrels and playing basketball.
Harry is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his daughter Cindy Cartwright, son Mike (Colleen) Cartwright, grandsons Shawn (Brianne) Cartwright, Jake (Shannon) Cartwright, Kane (Coree) Cartwright and great granddaughters Taylor Cartwright and Mya Cartwright.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the American Diabetes Associations.

It was about 58 years ago when I was in school with Harry. He was a senior when I was a freshman. I remember him as a character with a toothpick always in his mouth and a cool old car which he let me drive on occasion. It looks like he has been in a lot of stations in his life since then and I’m sure made many friends. The Cartwrights were long-time acquaintances of my people before me and we are privileged to have one of Harry’s grandchildren (Jake) in my nephew Scott’s family now. Condolence to his loved ones.

Gay Ann Masolo says
Harry was a friend growing up in school and I would ride horse with him when we were young. He had a great memory and many stories, which I will miss. In our last class reunion, he was winning all the naming of businesses in Townsend when we were seniors which we showed on a screen. I finally had to blackball him to give other classmates a chance. Prayers to all the family. Bob and Gay Ann
