Jacob F. “Jake” Mitchell, age 84, of Columbia Falls formerly of Townsend died Tuesday morning September 15, 2015 at the Montana Veterans Home in Columbia Falls, Montana where he had been a resident since 1995. Jake was born in Missoula, Montana on March 14, 1931 to Fraser and Marie Mitchell.
He received his education in Townsend. Jake served his country in the United States Army from October 14, 1952 to October 13, 1954. Following his honorable discharge, Jake return to Townsend where he spent most of his years on his Timber Gulch Land he owned. He raised cattle. He loved his dogs, which were his companions. Jake had at a time six to seven dogs. He always talked about life on the Mitchell Ranch on Dry Creek. Jake was a very kind and generous man of his time, he would do what he could to help anyone. Jake owned a home in Toston for a short time, prior to becoming a resident of the Montana Veterans Home in Columbia Falls in 1995. Those years as a resident of the veteran’s home were good years for him. Jake’s entire family had preceded him in death.
Please join his friends in remembering Jake during viewing hours that will begin at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 23, 2015 with a funeral service to be held at 11:00 a.m. at Stevenson Wilke Funeral Home, 212 Broadway Street Townsend, Montana 59644. Casket bearers will be Bill Cooper, Scott Cooper, Mathew Cooper and Nathan Burkhart. Pastor Terry Eichelberger of the Alliance Bible Church will officiate. I knew Jake and his brother Charlie and their mother Mary they lived on Deep Creek for a number of years before Mary and Charlie passed on Jake move to Columbia Falls. They were great people and even Mary and Charlie where members of the Methodist Church.
