Jim Croom, a quiet, gentle giant of a man, was carried by the angels through Heaven’s gates, to walk the streets of Gold on Friday, April 10, 2015. Born in Newport News, Virginia on September 25, 1945 to Hubert and Eula Croom, he grew up in Delco, N.C. At age 17 he entered the U.S. Navy where he served proudly. He met and married Karen, the woman that he chose to devote his life and strength to , on November 6, 1964. Together they raised 3 children on a farm in Toston, MT. for many wonderful and happy years. Later Jim worked as a construction Millwright, and worked faithfully to meet the needs of his family and friends. Considering his own needs or wants ahead of his loved ones would have been unthinkable for him.
Some of Jim’s greatest pleasures in life were his Faith, Fishing, and having coffee with his many friends. He loved to weld and could fabricate anything he set his mind to. He hardly had an unproductive moment in his life. As the license plate on his truck stated, the people and things he loved in life were plenty “Gud Nuf”.
As a result of his passing he has been briefly parted from his wife, Karen, his daughters, Lisa (Jon) Higgins, and Dori (Richard) Clark. He has now been reunited with his son Tom (deceased) and many other loved ones that have passed on before him, including his parents and brother Vernon Croom. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Ben, and Beth Clark, Katherine (Zach) Newsome, Amber, Kristen and Kierstin Higgins, Austen (Emily) Higgins and Destiny Parsons, and great grandchild Nathaniel Higgins. Jim is also survived by his two brothers Acie (Alice) Croom and Ronald (Christine) Croom, as well as one sister, Brenda (Lawrence) Blackwell.

Acie H. Croom, Jr. says
There aren’t enough words to describe my brother adequately. I Loved this gentle giant of a man; he always had a happy smile and laughed freely; he was the stable/strong one out of our family; he was compassionate and loving; tenderhearted more than most people; and I will sincerely miss his encouraging phone calls to North Carolina. My brother, I will see you soon, when we meet in the air with our Lord Jesus Christ. I Thess. 4:13-18
Brenda Croom Blackwell says
All of the things that our older brother just said about our brother (Jimmy) as we affectionately called him, are 100% true. NO matter how he may have felt, he always had that little chuckle and sweet smile. I always looked forward to the times he would call just to talk a little while and check on me and my family. Then if he didn’t call I would call him. My heart is broken today because I look and round and see his accomplishments everywhere. He was a wonderful son, brother, husband, Dad, grandfather, and Great granddad and friend. Every person that ever met him either loved him or cared alot about him. You just couldn’t help it. That’s the kind of person he was. He was and is a well respected Man and I truly loved him. See you soon, brother.
Rick Croom says
Uncle Jimmy was indeed a gentle giant. He also had a loving tender heart that was bigger than the state of Montana. The summer I spent with you in my teenage years was a huge learning experience for me. Thank you so much for teaching me respect and how to work hard. Some of the skills I learned that summer I still use to this day. you will be sorely missed. Thank God we will see you again up in heaven soon.
