Jay Steven Leonard of White Sulfur Sulphur Springs, MT, previously of Sierra Vista, AZ passed peacefully away on July 10, 2025, in the arms of his siblings He was predeceased by his parents, John Franklin and Mary Agnes, and sister Patricia Leonard. He is survived by his brother, Michael Leonard of White Sulphur Springs, sisters Joy Kross (Jennifer) of Miami, and Kathleen Leonard Garza (Silvestre) of las Cruces, NM, his nieces, Jennifer Leonard Yarberry (Dwain), Michelle Stratton (Mason), Veronica Hawthorne (Mike) and his nephews, Silvestre Garza, Jr (Claudia), Peter Brown and Michael Brown (Jennifer).
Jay graduated from Tehran American School in 1974, then worked for Bell Helicopter International in Isfahan, Iran. He was a proud U.S. Army Veteran. His career in the Army was military police, and warfare intercept linguist. Following his military service, he worked for Sierra Toyota in Sierra Vista. In 2011 he was one of only two (2) service writers chosen in the United States, recognized for his exceptional knowledge and customer service. For that, he received an all-expenses paid trip to Toyota headquarters in Japan.
Jay was a devout Catholic attending St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church in Sierra Vista, and St. Bartholomew Catholic Church in White Sulphur Springs. He was a long-standing member of the Knights of Columbus #4584. His exceptional community service was best on display when he was calling Bingo which he so enjoyed.
When not working, exploring the region, or meeting other obligations, Jay could be found fishing, which was his favorite pastime, or rooting for the Arizona Diamondbacks, beating the slots, or loving on his beloved dogs. Jay relocated to White Sulphur Springs in 2022 to be near to his brother, Mike. He acclimated to the climate and fishing conditions easily.
The Funeral Mass will take place at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church in White Sulphur Springs on August 13, 2025, at 11:00, followed by interment at the Montana State Veterans Cemetery – Fort Harrison at 3:00.
