June Carr Bernhardt
January 16, 1933- March 20, 2014
June was born at home near Cascade, MT to Walter and Emma Ramsey. In 1950, June married Nick Carr and together they raised Elaine, Nikki, and Craig. Nick passed away in 1983. During the summer of 1989 June married her soul mate Willard (Willie) Bernhardt. They spent many years helping local ranchers from branding to moving cows and enjoyed each other’s company along the way.
June was an old time cowgirl who loved barrel racing and was not afraid of a hard day’s work. She was always there to lend a helping hand whether it was selling raffle tickets for the Meagher County Rodeo Club, Senior Citizen Center, and Hospital Guild to volunteering at the Castle. During her younger years she worked as a waitress and a cook at Newland Creek Club where she gained a love for cooking. June then worked at Edward’s Grocery and retired after 27 years. Together her and Willard raised horses, chickens, calves, and a bountiful garden. June loved to pick her own berries to make her own preserves, which she gave to friends and family.
June always made sure her loved ones received a Christmas card and birthday card. She was adamant about cooking for everyone and you never left without a full belly and a plate to go. June’s famous fudge, that arrived every holiday season in the mail, was a family favorite and will be greatly missed by all.
June is survived by her beloved husband Willie, daughter Elaine (Lee) Hollings, Nikki Carr, and Craig (Tracy) Carr. Willie’s children Sidnie (Tom) DeTonancour, Denise (Mike) Brackett, and Willie John Bernhardt. Brothers Leo Ramsey and Jim (Alice) Ramsey and sister Marie (Gerald) Adams. Grandchildren Shane Day, Kari Day, Jamie Cheatham, Cori Carr Hogstad, Chelsie Carr Sweats, Marla Johnston, Ryan Johnston, Kaylyn Johnston, Jessica Morrison, Konrad Eden, Olivia Eden, Beau Bernhardt, Marissa Bernhardt, and Brianna Bernhardt. Great grandchildren Riata, Wacey, and Isabelle.
June was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Virginia, Evelyn, and brother Charles.

My mind keeps going back to all the family gatherings from my childhood, with Aunt June, Aunt Virginia, and Grandma Evalyn all cooking and drinking coffee from the big urn and all the laughter and love that always surrounded them. I am thankful for the short visit we had this summer, and will miss her terribly.

Was so sorry to hear of June’s passing, but she’s free of pain and free to ride those horses where ever and when ever she wants. And I’m sure she’s running barrels up there. We all had a lot of fun in the years passed at all the rodeos barrel racing and running our kids around. Wish we could of come up for her funeral and got to see you kids again, it’s been a long time since we’ve seen you.

The Ramsey gals …. great ladies. Aunt June will be missed so much. Her obituary was beautifully written. My heart and prayers go out to Willard and all of their children and family as well. You are all in our prayers. She was like a part of my Grandma to me. My memories are similar to Heather’s. And…. she never sold a piece of Penny candy without a smile on her face.
