Kay (Delger) Malerich
Kay M. (Delger) Malerich , 72 of Corvallis, MT, passed away February 9, 2019 due to complications of ovarian cancer at the Marcus Daly Memorial Hospice Center in Hamilton, Montana.
Kay was born February 4, 1947 in Townsend, MT the daughter of the late Loren I. and Helen B. Delger.
After graduating from Broadwater County HS as Valedictorian in 1965 Kay headed to Minneapolis to start a new adventure at The University of Minnesota. There she met her husband Jerome K (Jerry) Malerich and graduated with a B.S. in Clinical Laboratory Science. Soon after graduating she began her career in the University of Minnesota Hospital and Clinics.
During her 41 years at the University Hospital she became the night shift supervisor supervising and teaching up to 40 staff and students.
In addition to working nights at the hospital she helped Jerry build and manage two hardware stores in the Minneapolis suburbs.
When they began to think about retirement they decided to move back to Montana. After selling the stores, they purchased forty acres in Corvallis and built a new home in 2012. She enjoyed being close to family and enjoying the beauty of Montana.
During her life she owned five German Shepherd Dogs and really enjoyed training and spoiling them.
Kay was an avid reader, enjoyed gardening, knitting and crafts, especially flower arranging.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Loren I (Ike) and Helen B Delger, sister Joan Schritz, and a niece, Kristy Delger.
Surviving include her husband Jerry Malerich of Corvallis, MT: sister, Peggy (Doug) Lienemann, Beth (Ken) Lamping, Lois (Jeff) Demars, Nancy Delger: brothers Pat Delger, Harvey (Nancy) Delger, Allen (Gail) Delger and Mike Delger; numerous nieces and nephews; and her beloved German Shepherd, Sugar.
A memorial service celebrating Kay’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 22nd at Stevenson Wilke Funeral Home, 212 Broadway in Townsend. A reception will follow the service at the Townsend Senior Center. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Kay’s name are suggested to The Ovarian Cancer Research Alliance, Inc. 14 Pennsylvania Plaza, Suite 2110, New York, New York, 10122.

We are saddened to hear of Kay’s passing. Kay worked for my grandmother for years at the Rex theater and was a mentor to my sister. She was a valued friend to both. We offer our thoughts and sympathies to Kay’s family and to our Delger family friends. God bless.
