Keith Gordon (Red) Carter, 80, of White Sulphur Springs, formerly of Livingston, died unexpectedly on March 13,2013 in Bullhead City, Arizona, returning to Montana, after visiting many friends from years of wintering together. He was born in Livingston October 25,1932, the first of three boys, born to Ambert Lester and Mae (Barr) Carter. He was raised and received his education in Livingston, graduating from Park County High School in 1951, where he met Shirley Ann Logan, who would become his wife of 61 years. They married at First Baptist Church in Livingston on December 29th, 1951. He was a patient husband of one wife, a real example to his five children who were also raised in Livingston.
Most of his career was with Eddy’s Bakery, where he drove a delivery truck for 23 years. Everyone knew him as “Red” the happy go lucky man who never met a stranger. In 1978 he moved to White Sulphur Springs, purchasing a supper club which he and Shirley operated until retiring in the early 90’s. While there they played a key role in starting the Arrowhead Golf Course. After selling what was then known as the Cow Palace, they became snow birds, and in summers they managed the Conastoga RV. Park in White Sulphur Springs before building a home in town. Keith had an off the cuff sense of humor, with an amazing wit . The way he told a story was most often better than the story itself. He enjoyed outdoor recreation of all sorts that he could include his family in, but his long suit was hunting. He taught many how to out smart elk, but not many could out maneuver them like he could.
He is survived by his wife Shirley of White Sulphur Springs, children; Mick (Terry) of Livingston, Dan, of Bozeman, Dave (Patsy) of Livingston, Pam Shearer of Ft. Morgan, CO, Doug (Kelly) of Sundance, WY; 14 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Ted (Virginia) of Clyde Park, Ron (Virginia) of Glendale, AZ; and many good friends, including numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant grandson Robert Seth (son of Mick and Terry) and a daughter-in-law Diane (wife of Dan). Beside “cheerful” in the dictionary is the description; willing, ready- and a picture of Keith. He will be greatly missed! Our thoughts of him shall always bring a smile.
