Lavern “Vern” E Roberts passed away after a brief illness on Sunday, October 25, 2020 in White Sulphur Springs at the age of 78. He was born April 27, 1942 to Ernest and Velma Roberts in Gunnison, Colorado. After graduating high school in Mill Valley, California he joined the Navy where he was a mechanic during the Vietnam era.

He enjoyed nothing more than going to local lakes to “drown a worm” in the hopes of catching fish to share with friends. He enjoyed watching and reading westerns. He loved spending time with his brothers and sisters in arms at the VFW and American Legion posts. But most importantly he liked to spend time with family and friends playing cards and board games. Vern had a unique personality, he always said there was no strangers only friends you have not met yet, he was always ready with a witty comeback to make you laugh or smile. He always felt his illness was a challenge that he worked hard to overcome; he was not one to give up.

In 1979 he met and married the love of his life, Wendy H. Roberts they lived in Lake Tahoe, California before moving to Ordway, Colorado until 1996 when the moved to Montana settling in Livingston until eventually moving to White Sulphur Springs.

Vern is survived by his three children from his first wife, Lynda Knepper: William Roberts, David Roberts and wife Jennifer, and Christina O’Neal. Four grandchildren, J.D. O’Neal, Price O’Neal, George O’Neal, and Gregory Roberts, and several nieces and nephews.

He is proceeded in death by his wife Wendy H. Roberts, his parents Ernest and Velma Roberts, sister Shirley Hart, brother-in-law Daniel Hart II, nephew Daniel Hart III, niece Kimberly Hart, son-in-law George O’Neal, many of his family in arms and many friends.

Vern will be missed by many for his unique personality and ability to put a smile on your face. Vern will be greatly missed by all that knew him. We hope he will rest in peace with a smile on his face as he sees his beloved wife Wendy again.
