On December 5, 2016, Leo passed away at Mountainview Medical Center in White Sulphur Springs, Montana, because of a short illness due to a fall which resulted in a fractured hip and required surgery.
Leo was the eldest child of seven born to Walter and Emma (Wilke) Ramsey on April 21, 1931 in Great Falls, Montana. He grew up on the family ranch near Lingshire, Montana and attended Twin Firs School with his 4 sisters and 2 brothers.
Leo served our country in the United States Army during the World War II and was honorably discharged. He received his training as an MP in Texas and served in both France and Germany.
He worked together on the Tony Gasper Ranch next to the family ranch in the beginning and later the Hodson Ranch. He later moved to White Sulphur Springs where he was employed by the local SawmiIl.
Leo grew up learning a great appreciation for the land, outdoors and maintained a love of fishing, hunting and all the beauty of Meagher County. He loved animals, both wild and domestic. His favorite was his faithful dog Beaver. He also cared for any stray who came his way, giving “mama” cat food and drink whenever she showed up.
Leo was an avid sportsman, hunting elk, deer and antelope. He loved to fish the Smith River, Rock Creek and ice fish on Sutherland and Newlan Creek Dams. Leo could out walk men half his age until just the past few years. He spent many days pulling weeds and collecting aluminum cans on his walks.
Leo was an early member of the Meagher County Rodeo Club, and VFW. He was a devoted son, brother and uncle. Leo lived with his mother Emma for a period of time.
Leo was preceded in death by his parents, Walter, and Emma (Wilke) Ramsey; sisters Virginia (Ramsey) Staley and Evalyn (Ramsey) Hilton and her husband Kenneth Hilton; brother, Charles (Lydamae) Ramsey; June (Ramsey) Bernhardt and her husband Willard Bernhardt, and Nephews Kenneth Hilton, Jr.; Jackie R. (J.R.) Shinabarger.
Leo is survived by sister Marie (Gerald) Adams of Dixon, Ca; and brother James “Jim” (Alice) Ramsey, of White Sulphur Springs; and many, many nieces and nephews.

Ginger says
Uncle Leo was unique, one of a kind ,with a heart of gold.. I will forever miss the times we shared.. Christmas Dinners and special occasions we would all meet at my Grandmas and have a huge feast with all our loved ones.. He never ate too much but said he was full! 🙂
If you lived in White Sulphur you would see Leo walk around all the time. Here if your not family you wouldnt know it by looking.. Our community is so tight knit.. We watch out for eachother as Did Leo..
I Love you ,
Ginger
