Lloyd Lowell Schendel, 84, of White Sulphur Springs, passed away at Mountain View Medical Center on Sunday, April 24, 2016, after months of prolonged illness. Lloyd was born to Lowell and Lenore (Gehring) Schendel on June 5, 1931, in Livingston. A life-long resident of Meagher County, he married the love of his life, Marian (Short) on March 11, 1957, and spent his life in the White Sulphur community working hard and building a large and happy family of his own.
Lloyd was the oldest of seven children and grew up working on the family ranch in Meagher County. He joined the U.S. Army in 1952 and served two years, plus another eight in the Reserves . Upon returning to WSS and getting married, Lloyd worked for a time on the family ranch and at the local sawmill. The remainder of his working years were filled with farm and ranch work, both on his own land and as a long-time ranch hand. Lloyd enjoyed farming and would‘ve loved to continue working if health difficulties hadn‘t caused him to finally retire in his 70‘s. Those close to Lloyd will remember him for his love of hunting and loading ammunition, everything Charlie Russell, war and western books, gigantic Christmas tree, puzzle building, artwork, and his many, many collections.
Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents, Lowell and Lenore of WSS; younger brother, John Schendel, of Townsend; and great-grandson, Max Wilson, of Helena. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Marian; six children: Terry (Bruce) Bieber of Great Falls; Joyce (Mike) Wofford of WSS; Maureen (Rod) Brewer of Ringling; Steven Schendel of WSS; Honey (Jon) Ring of Helena; and Brittany (Leon) Fisher of Polson. He is survived by five siblings: Delores Hart of Helena; Dorothy Novak of WSS; Donald (Betty) Schendel of Townsend; William Schendel of WSS; and Barb Heggen of WSS. Lloyd is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Graveside services will be held Friday, April 29th, at 2 pm at Mayn Cemetery in White Sulphur Springs, followed by a coffee hour at Meagher County Senior Center. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Mountain View Medical Center for their care and thoughtfulness throughout Lloyd’s illness. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to be made to Mountain View Medical Center or Meagher County Senior Center.

“Momma Schendel”, Terry, Joyce and all –
Sad to read about Lloyd’s passing. I remember him being a quiet, content man. I also remember the puzzles, some western-type collections and, most of all, the Christmas trees that seemed to take up half your living room! Please know I’m thinking of you. Take care!
