Loraine DeTienne
Loraine, 82, passed away peacefully Saturday, September 10, 2016 at her home in Townsend, leaving all her earthly ailments behind to be with her family and friends who have gone before her and her Heavenly Father.
Loraine DeTienne (always clear that her name was spelled with one ‘r’ and one ‘n’) was born October 29, 1933 at Watford City, ND; the 12th child of 13 to Carl and Clara Falkenhagen. She grew up on the family farm near Fairview, Montana.
At the urging of one of her cousins, Loraine began writing letters to the soldiers in Korea and that began a lifelong partnership with Robert DeTienne. Upon his return from Korea, they connected, became married and created over 50 years of memories before his passing in 2004. Through their years together they moved to Williston, Bainville and Crosby, finally settling in Plentywood to raise their five children. Upon their retirement, they moved to Townsend, Montana to live a quiet life with better weather and opportunities to travel. Even recently, she fondly remembered the trip to her granddaughter’s wedding in which she was able to not only see the Pacific Ocean, but could dip her feet in it on the beach.
As part of her life centered around raising a family of two sons and three daughters, she was active in Jayceens, Bluebirds, Campfire Girls and Boy Scouts. She was one of several wives who formed an ambulance auxiliary to assist ambulance crews and firemen doing their work. She loved garage sales and the chance for another $1.00 treasure.
Mom said she grew up hating to cook, even to the point of trading wood and coal hauling chores with one of her sisters who would rather do cooking. However, her and Robert were the ultimate cooks as we grew up; feeding large crowds of family for holidays and hundreds of barbeques.
Mom also said she grew up hating quilting because as a child, it was one of her jobs to be under a stretched quilt and keep pushing the needle back up when it was pushed down from above. Yet, quilting became one of her greatest passions and one our family’s greatest memories as she created special designs and colors for all her children and grandchildren. She was still planning ‘just a couple more quilts’ right up to her passing.
Loraine is survived by her son, Jim DeTienne, and Jamie DeTienne, Cassandra Rawson, Kristi Harmon and Jessica DeTienne; daughter Glenda Jackson, husband Tiny, and Scott Nelson, Shannon Jackson, Dr. Amy Nelson, Lacy Benkley and Kevin Nelson; daughter Genise Hancock and husband Lyle, and Gennifer Martinez, Chelsis Andrews, and Travis Hancock; son Larry DeTienne and Shekina DeTienne, Blaise DeTienne, and Isaiah DeTienne ; and Roberta Kavon, husband Richard, and Rachelle Kavon and Keith Kavon; 18 grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren.
Besides her husband, Robert, Loraine was preceded in death by twin children, her parents, her 12 brothers and sisters and two grandchildren.

Cousins – I have such fond memories of your mom! The older we get, the more precious our memories are…or at least the ones we can still remember – right?!! We were so fortunate to live near you for our younger years, that when we moved away, I still always felt close to you all. I loved seeing your mom’s latest Avon goodies and smelling the perfumes, etc. She always made us feel at home and a part of your family. I’ll always remember the time you were out visiting us and we went fishing and we thought we heard a bear and the next thing we knew my mom was in the car with the door locked and your mom and all of us kids were on the outside of the car trying to get in. Thankfully, it was just a bull bellering – ha! Her chuckle was contagious too! You will always miss your mom (and dad) no matter how many years go by, but thankfully you have so many wonderful memories. We will all miss her as well! (How can we possibly be our parent’s generation already?) Love, prayers and hugs to you all!!

Sorry for your loss. Have spent the last four days remembering all the good times we used to have. One thing about going to Bob and Loraine’s house is you knew you were going go get the best bar-b-qd steak in town. I used to get to spend a lot of summers with them and I am sure Loraine was glad when I left so she didn’t have to listen to the Homer & Jethro record I always had playing.Oh and uncle Bob as you know by now it was Jim that ran over the shovel with the old pickup. Am looking forward to seeing you all tomorrow. Roy & Connie Brunner Catch ya on the river

My sympathies and prayers to Loraine’s family. I met your mom when she was visiting her sister, Stella, my grandmother, maybe around 2004. I remember enjoying listening to them reminisce. It is hard to imagine how they grew up, and nice to read some of those memories here. Hugs and prayers from Circle, MT.
