Lucy was born in Ennis, MT on May 29, 1932, the middle child of Jack and Mildred (Young) Lemon. Lucy passed peacefully at Broadwater Health Center on December 9th, 2017. She spent her last days being doted on by family, friends, and the caring staff of the hospital and Compassus Hospice. This was quite the change for Lucy as she was used to entertaining friends and family when they would visit.
Lucy graduated high school early at the age of 16 in Norris, MT and then took business classes while working on the family ranch. She began working for Dr. Bertagnolli in Three Forks, MT in the fall of 1950 until her passion and love of horses took her to the Whitehorse Ranch in Naper, Nebraska in the spring of 1951. There she trained for the show troupe and traveled with their show during the summer and fall. Lucy performed a variety of outstanding stunts on horseback and made lifelong friends while there. She returned to the family ranch late fall of 1951.
Lucy began working at the clinic in Broadwater Hospital in 1952 in Townsend, MT where she met Maurice Ferrat, whom she married June 8, 1953. After living in Spokane, Washington for a while, where they had their first son Michael Maurice (Mike), Maurice and Lucy returned to Toston, MT and purchased the Ferrat Family Ranch. It was there Maurice and Lucy had their second son Anthony Randal (Randy). While Maurice tended the cows, Lucy had her horses. Lucy was a champion showman with her Appaloosa, traveling to many shows with her sister Deanie and nieces, Lori and Jolene. Lucy also made sure she had a large garden for vegetables, raspberries, and flowers.
Lucy had other passions beyond her horses and garden. She was a talented leather worker and many folks can attest to her talent as she often gifted personalized wallets and belts. If you didn’t get a wallet or belt, then you probably got an apple pie or loaf of zucchini bread as Lucy was an avid baker. Homemade pasta and bread were also a staple in Lucy’s kitchen and Thanksgiving Dinner was a given at Lucy’s home for decades. Lucy had many roles; a ranch wife, mother, sister, aunt, waitress (15 years at The Fireside Supper Club), 4-H Leader, grandmother, gardener, great-grandmother, gracious hostess, and dear friend and neighbor.
Lucy spent the last 11 months of her life residing at Silver Springs in Townsend, MT. There she helped the staff bake and spent time socializing with friends. Lucy is survived by her daughter-in-law Diann Ferrat, granddaughter Amanda Ferrat, grandson John (Samantha) Ferrat, great-grandson Andrew Ferrat, her sister Deanie (Steve) Jackson, and many nieces, nephews, in-laws and their families. Lucy was proceeded in death by her husband Maurice Ferrat, sons Mike and Randy Ferrat, sisters Lorna Fitzhugh and Myrna Woirhaye, her brother George Lemon, and her parents.

Michael Corless says
I met Lucy through her son Mike in 1975. I worked with Mike at Gallatin Homes in Belgrade Montana. I have never met such a wonderful family in my life. I spent a day at their family farm and was amazed at their kindness and love. A week or so after that experience Mike handed me a wallet that Lucy made for me. I was speechless. I have it to this day. It is one of the few things in my life that I really cherish. I could not believe that a women I had recently met took the time to make me a wallet (with my initials on it)! I will always have a place in my heart for the Ferrat Family. I am so sorry I didn’t get a chance to tell Lucy and Mike how they both touched my life forever! I will love them forever. Mike Corless
