Marvin C. Kostelecky was called home on Saturday, November 18, 2023. God said he needed someone who could drive a John Deere tractor, ride a horse, and take care of cows. At the time of his passing, Marvin was surrounded by his loving family.
Marvin was born on April 18, 1944 to Mildred and Charles Kostelecky in Dickinson, North Dakota. Marvin went to many schools during his lifetime including White Sulphur Springs. Marvin was drafted into the Army in 1967. During his tour of duty he was wounded and received 2 Purple Hearts and the Bronze Star. After returning home he met Fran Van Dyke. She brought into the family a son, Deon. Marvin & Fran had together 2 children, Kandi Mil & Karson Ray. They lived in the farming area of Ryegate and Rapelje. They were divorced in 1976.
In 1976 he met & married Phyllis Ball, she came into the family with 2 children, Spencer and Lonnele. Marvin was able to work for many different ranchers across Montana from Colstrip to Malta, Plentywood to Dagmar, MT. Marvin & Phyllis welcomed into the family a son, Kevin Charles. During Marvin & Phyllis’ marriage Marvin found another daughter, Stacy. So the family grew even more. In 1992 Marvin & Phyllis were divorced.
Marvin then met Yvonne through his brother, Randy and Randy’s wife, Connie, who is Yvonne’s sister. They were married on July 16, 1993. Yvonne brought into the family 2 daughters, Sheila and Roberta. The family is now complete. Marvin and Yvonne worked on many different ranches together across Montana including Bainville and Shonkin. Furthermore, Marvin worked at the Wagonhound Land and Livestock Ranch in Douglas, Wyoming where he was able to drive teams of horses to feed with & to pull different kinds of buggies. Marvin & Yvonne moved to WSS in 2010 and retired. Once again Marvin was able to farm & ranch part time for Castle Mountain Ranch and for Jock & Jamie Doggett until his health became poor.
Marvin loved to watch his children & grandchildren play sports; he was their sideline coach. He also loved watching the WSS Hornets and the Montana GRIZ and be their side line coach also.
During his life he was able to Rodeo & even won a saddle at the NILE. He loved being a cowboy & driving a tractor but the one thing he loved the most was his family & his dog, Sammi Jo.
He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Yvonne, his children, Deon (Bambi), Stacy (Gary), Spencer , Sheila, Kandi (Ken) , Lonnele, Roberta (Bill) , Karson (Carman), & Kevin, 14 grandchildren, Karissa, Marti, Kaylee, Brooke, Trey, Taylor, Trennan, Gunner, Austin, Courtney, Naiyali, Leilah, Cooper, and Harrison and 1 great grandchild, Clara, 4 brothers, Dennus (Debi) of Wilsall, Randy (Connie) of Columbus, Doug (Marjean) of Billings, Francis of Billings and 1 sister, Coleen (Richard) of Aurora, Colorado, 1 Aunt, Angie Kostelecky of Dickinson, North Dakota, & many numerous nieces & nephews & cousins, and his wonderful little dog, Sammi Jo.

I am sad to read this obituary. My memories of the Kostelecky family were a part of my childhood when they lived across the street on 900 block of North 24th Street. My age placed me in between Doug and Audrey. It was a simple time during the 1960’s. One moment that I will never forget, was playing in the Kostelecky’s front yard one day. A soldier came walking up the sidewalk and the Kostelecky kids all went running into his arms for a hug. It was their brother who was serving in the Vietnam War. He put his finger up to his lips in a “hush” sign and walked in the front door to surprise his parents. I am now a senior citizen, and I have lost touch, but the Kostelecky children and their parents will remain forever in my heart with memories of playing together as kids in the 1960’s. The Kostelecky’s! ❤️. Such a sweet family!
