Townsend – On Thursday, March 3rd, 2016, Heaven welcomed Marvin Love. Marvin was born on November 7, 1935 in Sheridan, MT to Paul and Roberta Love. For the first 14 years of his life, they, along with Marvin’s younger brother Larry, lived in Virginia City. Marvin graduated from Ennis High School and attended Montana State University where he received a Bachelor’s Degree in Range Management in the spring of 1957.
In March of 1958, he was drafted into the US Army. Marvin served two years active duty in the Signal Corps, primarily in 5th Army Headquarters in Chicago. After being discharged in the spring of 1960, he returned to Ennis to work at the family owned, Angle Hardware store.
In 1962, Marvin returned to MSU and received his teaching certificate. His first teaching job was in Lewistown beginning in 1963. Marvin later found out that this would be the career choice that suited him. Through 1965-1966, Marvin attended Oregon State University and received his Master’s Degree in Science Education and then returned to Montana where he landed in Townsend to begin a 30-year career, teaching Junior High Science. He retired from education in 1997, but never stopped attending athletic events, plays, music concerts, and anything involving Townsend Schools. Through the years, he developed lasting memories with countless students and always enjoyed visiting with former students.
Marvin met the love of his life in 1969 and he married Terry Sullivan during the summer of 1970. Together they raised two sons, Steven and Timothy. Marvin and Terry loved traveling the state following their sons as they participated in athletics, Boy Scouting, fishing, hunting, skiing, and many other activities.
Marvin joined the Catholic Church in 1986. He embraced Catholicism and had a wonderful relationship with God. He always enjoyed good Christian fellowship and was a constant fixture at the men’s Christian breakfasts that the Townsend Community held once a month.
Upon retirement, Marvin volunteered at the Broadwater Health Center and volunteered countless hours at Townsend Schools. Two of his favorite activities were chaperoning the school skiing trips and he absolutely loved being involved in the Dr. Seuss Reading Program, where he would always be dressed to the “hilt” in his wacky Dr. Seuss attire. He looked forward to participating in the Townsend Rotary Club variety show every year as well…
Marvin cherished the time and memories he shared with all of his family member and friends. He enjoyed life to the fullest, being a great husband, father, and grandfather.
He is survived by his wife Terry; sons, Timothy and Steven, his daughter-in-law Janene and grandkids Aislynn, Aryal, and Tucker. Marvin is also survived by his brother Larry (Shirley) Love.

Kyle Flynn says
Seldom was there found a BHS athletic event without Mr. Love in attendance in his trusty blue Bulldog jacket. He will be missed for his warm chuckles, a classic greeting of, “Flynn…you stayin’ out of trouble?”, and many other junior high, high school, and college memories including his crazy flashing Christmas light tie, many nights hanging out at the Love house with Tim/others actually staying out of trouble, and numerous other events. He was a great part of the Townsend community and will be missed!

Marvin was a good friend and teaching associate. He always had a smile and good comment for Chris as they taught together for many years. When you loose someone who has touched lives as Marvin did, it leaves a tremendous hole in one’s existence. He will be greatly missed and our love and support go out to Terry, Steven, Tim and their families. Know that Marvin has left an impact for much good in the Townsend community and with all those he came in contact with. All of our children loved Marvin (Mr. Love) as their teacher through the years. God bless and watch over you during this time of mourning and great loss.
Cathlene Millay says
Marvin had such a beautiful soul and the biggest most warm heart ever. He always had a contagious smile and was never without kind words. His love for teaching reached many of our children and well into his retirement. as he continued to attended school activities and sporting events. And always a pleasure to see him dressed up in his Dr. Suess attire or his flashing tie during the holidays. Marvin was still known as ‘Mr. Love’ by most (students and the parents alike). Blessed thoughts and prayers be with you Terry, Steve, Tim and families. God Bless ~ Cathlene & Mike Millay
