Phillip Archibald Ogle (89 yrs old) passed away peacefully in his home the morning of July 27, 2025. Phil was born in Lima, Ohio on November 26, 1935. He was the second of 11 children to Beatrice Piper and Harold Ogle.
His younger years were spent in Ohio. The family moved to Montana in the early 1950s where Phil worked as a millwright on the Canyon Ferry Dam until its completion in 1954. Phil met Geraldine Kokoruda in 1954 and the couple married in 1956. Together, they had three boys Ray, Mark & Kenny. After the dams completion in 1954. Phil joined the Carpenters Local Union #153 where he completed his carpenter apprenticeship. He began his career with Johnson Builders and later worked for The Reber Company, where he became a foreman overseeing many large projects including an addition at Capital High School, The Arcade Building, and the Four Georgian School.
Phil also served as the president of the Carpenters Local #153 for several years. In the mid 1970s, Phil left his carpenter career to pursue ranching full-time in the Helena valley. At the height of his ranching career, he and his family were running 300 head of cattle in the Helena Valley and the North Hills. Phil and Geraldine purchased the Hilger Ranch at the Gate of the Mountains around 1985 and ran the ranch for several years before returning to the Helena Valley. Phil was always a good neighbor willing to help out with anything that was asked of him including working on equipment, haying, fencing, branding’s, moving cattle, or fighting wildfires.
Phil was also the leader of The Challengers 4H club for five years helping the club with their 4H animals and taking them on many fishing and camping trips. Phil enjoyed many outdoor activities, including fishing, hunting and snowmobile in Yellowstone Park and Cooke City. Phil always looked forward to hunting camp with his boys and other family and friends the last week of the season in the Elkhorn Mountains near Crow Creek.
Phil and Geraldine moved to White Sulphur in 2006 to be closer to Family. Phil was always eager to help his boys anytime they needed an extra hand, moving cows or equipment, branding, harvesting or building a home. He also thoroughly enjoyed spending time with this grandchildren and great grand children, fishing, hunting or just playing around. Phil was hard wired with a work ethic that wouldn’t let him slow down. He never truly retired. Always wanting to go fishing or working on tractors & equipment until his passing.
Phil was proceeded in death by his parents, Harold and Beatrice Ogle, brothers Harold, Fred and Richard Ogle and sister Debbie Ogle.
Phil is survived by his spouse Geraldine Ogle, his children Ray, Mark (Teri), Kenny (Dayna) Ogle all of White Sulphur Springs, his grandchildren Ty Ogle of Prescott Valley Arizona, Clive Townsend, Caden & Nate Ogle of White Sulphur Springs, Megan Ogle of Bozeman, Shane Ogle of Billings, his great grandchildren, Justin and Michael Ogle Prescott Valley, Arizona. His siblings, Anita (Curt) Boutain, Beverly Allphin, Jim (DeeDee) Ogle, Kathy (Jim) St. John, Lenny Ogle of Washington, David (Marsha) Ogle of Helena.
Phil’s ashes will be spread over his favorite hunting grounds in the Elk Horn Mountains, followed by a celebration of life from 2 o’clock to 5 o’clock in the afternoon at Grassy Mountain Ranch Lodge, 100 Grassy Mountain Rd, White Sulphur Springs MT 59645.
