Well over sixty years ago Rose stood beside my mother as the bridesmaid at mom’s wedding. She was great friends with my parents and my aunt and uncle, and whenever I went fishing outside of White Sulphur Springs, I tried to stop and shoot the breeze with her for a few minutes. Needless to say, she had lots of memories of the “good ol’ days” in White Sulphur Springs. “One time, ” she once told me, “Axel and Henry [my uncle] and your dad came back to the house with a big mess of fish. I’ll never forget hearing them clean the fish down in the basement. They were laughing and laughing and laughing – and to this day I have no idea what they were laughing so hard about. I wish I did!” Fortunately, my uncle and I were able to visit Rose a couple of times at the Mountainview Medical Center before she passed. Her eyes always lit up to see us. She was part of my childhood – an important bit – and I will miss her. God bless you, Rose! Please say hello to mom and dad and B.J.!
