Zillahn L. Hawthorne, age 95 of Townsend

Zillahn McCurry Hawthorne was taken home to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 11, 2014 from natural causes.

   She was born in in Ringling, MT in 1918.  She graduated high school there and was one year at Western MT College, in Dillon, and then transferred to Northern MT College in Havre; graduating with a degree in teaching.

    Her first teaching assignment was in a one room country school house at Beaver Flats, northwest of Fort Logan, living with a student’s family.  She then taught at Ringling, Nyhart, Wise River, and Twin Bridges, where she taught remedial students for 15 years.  Upon retiring in 1985, she was awarded a Lifetime Teachers Certificate. She lived in Townsend from 1986 until present, where she enjoyed her beautiful flower garden. 

 She is survived by a son, Leslie Hawthorne, of Utah; two grandsons, Mike and Nicholas Hawthorne of Missoula; 7 nieces and 5 nephews.

  Visitation will begin at noon with the family receiving friends from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 15, 2014 at Stevenson Wilke Funeral Home, 212 Broadway, Townsend.  A funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, January 16, 2014 at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 101 S. Walnut Street in Townsend.  A reception will follow the funeral Mass in the basement of the church.  Burial will take place at a later date in the Mayne Cemetery in White Sulphur Springs.
